SUMMARY:The Gainesville Fine Arts Association presents 'Have You Seen This Frog?' by Ezekiel Abassa
DESCRIPTION:The Gainesville Fine Arts Association presents ‘Have You Seen This Frog?’ by Ezekiel Abassa\, which will be on display in our main gallery from August 12 – August 21 \nJoin us for the opening reception on August 14\, 6 – 8pm\, alongside ‘Never Returning’ by Paul Shortt’ in our front gallery \nEzekiel Abassa’s oil pastel works explore the nature of moving through seasons. At any given moment we are at the beginning (the tadpole)\, in the middle of growing\, or at the end of a cycle (the mature frog.) The artist observes how easily we regress\, slipping back to the beginning\, even when we mean to move forward. Growth is rarely as linear as we intend it to be. Each piece in this body of work depicts a state the person inside it cannot fully see from within. The frog is the witness in every painting\, and the viewer is asked to find it. The real question is whether they recognize themselves. \nAll exhibitions are free and open to the public.\nLocal art for sale in the exhibition & our new-&-improved gift shop! \n1314 S Main Street\, Gainesville\, FL\nAdditional parking is available at the grocery store lot next door & street parking on Main Street\nThis exhibition is part of a series of two week long artist-curated exhibitions at GFAA

SUMMARY:Jam Corps
DESCRIPTION:JAM Corps is a new music-based program designed to build connection\, creativity\, and community among local veterans. Through weekly jam sessions held at the local VFW\, veterans are invited to bring their instruments\, share their talents\, and make music together in a welcoming and low-pressure environment. \nNo matter what your experience level\, JAM Corps is about showing up\, connecting\, and enjoying the power of music alongside others who share similar experiences.\nThese sessions will culminate in a special performance at the Marion Theatre on November 10\, the day before Veterans Day. Participation in the performance is entirely optional. Veterans may choose to engage solely in the weekly sessions without performing publicly. \nJAM Corps is funded in part by Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network\, an initiative of the National Endowment in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Creative Forces Community Engagement Grant program is managed by Mid-America Arts Alliance.

SUMMARY:The GFAA presents: The Exquisite Corpse Art-A-Thon
DESCRIPTION:The Exquisite Corpse Art-a-thon is back! Over 72 hours\, participating artists will work in shifts in the gallery\, with each artist getting just 24 hours to create one section of a collaborative artwork. \nExquisite Corpse is a collaborative art-making game developed by Surrealist artists in the 1920s. For each piece\, artists create their section without seeing the previous work – with only a small portion of the previous section visible as a guide. The artwork is passed from one person to the next\, creating unexpected juxtapositions and dreamlike compositions. \nWatch the artists at work:\nOctober 26–28 | 11 am–4 pm\nGFAA Gallery \nThe Big Reveal:\nOctober 30 | 7 pm-10 pm\, reveal at 7:30 pm\nduring Artwalk Gainesville \nAnd you can be part of it! Sponsor your favorite participating artist through their fundraising page. 30% of the funds they raise goes directly to the artist\, while 70% supports GFAA’s exhibitions\, programs\, and resources for artists in our community. \nFollow along as the works take shape\, and join us for the reveal to see what happens when all the sections finally come together!
